We were waiting for this because, honestly, somebody had to do it. Behold! The Bloody Trump. In response to Donald Trump’s now infamous comments about Fox News correspondent Megyn Kelly’s job as a Republican debate moderator, artist Sarah Levy has created a bloody masterpiece.
“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” Trump said post-debate about Kelly who had pressed Trump about his misogynistic views/past quotes (like breastfeeding is disgusting, etc). Following this we saw social media blow up with #periodsarenotaninsult.
And now, the art. Titled “Whatever” – menses on matte board by Sarah Levy.
“I did a base layer of his face using the tampon from that morning that I had saved, then used a paint brush and Q-tips dipped in vials of the blood from the DivaCup to paint the rest of it,” Levy told Bitch Media. “It’s basically like water coloring but with blood.”
“That he thinks he can bring up the healthy functioning of women’s reproductive systems to insult women’s intelligence is a big problem that I think needs to be called out,” the #bloodytrump artist told Buzzfeed who also featured the artwork.
Levy, who normally uses gray scale as her color scheme of choice, waited a month until she got her period so she could create the piece in all its menstrual red glory. Her goal, she said via her website, is “to auction it off and give the money to an organization that helps Mexican immigrants in the U.S., because ol’ Don would hate that.”
The blood has dried to its red-ish brown-ishness, but the message is as vibrant as ever. Period shame is not OK and periods are NOT an insult.
More auction details will be up soon at sarahlevyart.wordpress.com, but for now if you’re interested in purchasing the piece you can email the artist at email@example.com.
Update: Levy is selling prints of the portrait on her Etsy page which reads: “Trump thinks he can bring up the healthy functioning of women’s reproductive systems to insult women’s intelligence. Bloody Trump thinks different. Let’s make America great again—for women, immigrants, working people, and everyone else Trump fears when he’s home alone at night crying beneath the bed sheets.”
